Created in July 1997 by Brandy and Ray J with their parents. The Norwood Kids Foundation's (The NK Foundation) ultimate goal
is to increase resources to disadvantaged and at-risk youth. Kids age 8 to 18 years of age can enrich their cultural awareness
through four programs that the foundation provides. These programs include Performing Arts, Digital, Academic and Explore
Communities. The Performing Arts programs are offered after-school, weekends and summers in the form of dance,
drill team, choir and drama course. The Digital Community provides multimedia exposure and computer instruction
to the community at large. The program ensures basic proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet software and internet operations.
The Academic Community is a tutoring program that recruits students that can benefit from tutoring in reading, writing
and mathmatics. The Foundation works with students, parents, guidance counselors and tutors to ensure that the student comprehends
materials and makes satisfactory academic progress. The Explore Community strives to raise community awareness and
produce long-term results by giving people the tools to take ownership of their lives. Through a series of seminars, lectures
and tours featuring socially empowered celeberties, political decision-makers and medical organizations. To enroll
in the Norwood Kids Foundation participants must have a 2.0 grade point average (g.p.a.). To perform at events they must
maintain a 2.5 g.p.a. All participants are required to do 3 hours a month volunteer work with a civic or social organization.
